Celebrated Devon based maker Alice Wood stands in the doorway of her workshop in Plymouth, in front of her sewing machines and collection of fabric used for her leather and repurposed salvaged bags and accessories.

About me

I studied 3D design at Loughborough College of Art (now Loughborough University) and graduated with a 1st class honours degree in Jewellery and Silversmithing... many years ago now!

In 2012, after working for a hand made shoe company, running an independent clothing shop and having 3 children, I set up byAliceWood. With my 3D design background and years of working with leather, developing and honing both making and designing skills, I decided it was time to start my own business.

The design principle behind byAliceWood is that "form follows function". There is beauty in simplicity; the shape of an object should primarily relate to its intended function or purpose. I have always loved rummaging in junk shops and collecting old utilitarian bags. These have influenced my designs, with their practical design and use of quality materials to produce a simple but stylish, well-made item.

Enjoy exploring my collection!

Best wishes,

Alice
